On March 15th, 2017, doctors from Viet Duc Hospital successfully transplanted organs including liver, heart, and two kidneys to indicated patients from a brain-dead patient and the approval of patient’s family.

The liver transplanted patient named N.T.S.H (34 years old) was diagnosed with liver tumour from 2014 and underwent surgeries and chemotherapies at hospitals in Vietnam and Singapore. With the patient’s desire and the matching status between the patient and the donor, surgeons made a decision to transplant the liver to the patient. After the transplantation, the patient has been getting better with the stabilized index and recovering liver.

The heart transplanted patient was N.T.H (10 years old) living in Son Tay, Hanoi. This was an extremely difficult heart transplantation performed for the first time in Vietnam, from an adult donor to a child patient. This was also the case of youngest heart transplantation in Vietnam. The patient was diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy due to end-stage heart failure. Surgeons immediately decided to transplant the heart to the patient because of the scarce heart donors. After 13 hours of the transplantation, the patient has been getting better and still being monitored. Due to the scarcity of organ donations, surgeons performed the successful transplantation for the two patients of kidney failure, one of them was in blood filtration twice a week.
