Recently, the Ministry of Science and Technology in cooperation with the Ministry of Planning and Investment and the Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment jointly held a workshop on the technology of electricity generation from waste.
According to Prof., Dr. Dang Kim Chi - Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment, the volume of solid waste in the whole country (solid waste from urban areas, industries, health sector, rural areas, and so on) has increased by 12%/year and been mainly buried naturally or buried under control, overloading in many provinces and cities, especially in densely populated cities such as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh, Da Nang. Therefore, the technology of waste treatment for energy recovery is a trend that attracts many countries in the world, including Vietnam.
At the workshop, representatives of many organizations and enterprises in the field of waste treatment shared the technologies and equipment to treat waste and utilize waste to generate electricity such as: Waste-to-energy (WTE) technology of the HMC Hydraulics Company Limited; waste-powered electricity generation technology of ECOPA (Korea); plasma technology for waste treatment to generate electricity from Russia, etc.
