Scientists from the Sugarcane Research Institute (Vietnam Academy of Agricultural Sciences) have researched and successfully created the sugarcane variety KK3.

KK3 Sugarcane planted in Nghe An

KK3 variety has the ability of strong tillering, good regeneration, good morphology, average to large stems with even, firm, and non-porous sugarcane and no growth crack. KK3 sugarcane has high stems but with very little or without falling; good resistance to borers, stem borers, anthrax and rotten top diseases; and in the condition of white mild disease, it is only mildly infected. KK3 sugarcane has a wide adaptability, a high density of effective plants, a high yield (95-109 tonnes/hectare in the North Central, 120-164.5 tonnes/ha in the South West of Vietnam), an average sugar content of 11.7-14 CCS. For these outstanding properties, KK3 has been recognized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development as a technical advance for production in many ecological regions from the Central to the South of Vietnam.
