On 18 April 2018, in Hanoi, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Pham Cong Tac had a meeting and working session with an expert from the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Taemin Eom to discuss on the 2018 Invention Competition of Vietnam.

The invention competition is an activity co-organised by WIPO and the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) in collaboration with the under-developed and developing countries' intellectual property organisations to promote creativeness and create useful technical solutions so as to improve the lives of communities in those countries. In Vietnam, the competition was successfully held in the southern provinces in 2013 and nationwide in 2014. Through the competition, many technical solutions in various fields have been applied to life and production. The 2018 Invention Competition will be organized by the National Office of Intellectual Property (NOIP) in coordination with the WIPO since June 2018.

During the meeting, Deputy Minister Pham Cong Tac expressed his delight at WIPO's continued collaboration with the NOIP to organize the 2018 Invention Competition to find low-cost and effective technical solutions in accordance with the conditions of Vietnam, contributing to improving the lives of the community. He also expressed the hope that the both sides will effectively coordinate for the successful organization of this competition.
